Introducing the Kia Ceed

This is the third generation Kia Ceed and much more has changed than just a deleted apostrophe. Kia is one of the car market’s fastest-growing brands and this new model offers a great alternative to the more conventional cars in this sector, such as the Focus or Golf.

You can still enjoy the unfussy lines and the sleek elegance of the Kia Ceed, and while there might be more powerful engines or more dynamic handling available on the market, when you look at a car in the round, the Kia Ceed has an all-rounder quality that offers better looks, a quality build and strong safety features.

Add to that the low running costs of the new Kia Ceed and the rapid growth of the brand makes a little more sense.

Let’s look at the specifics

The third generation Kia Ceed comes in a hatchback version with 1.0-litre, 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre options and a mixture of both petrol and diesel engines and manual and automatic transmission. The same options are available for the Sportswagon Estate version.

Facts About The Kia Ceed

A sophisticated and fully-independent suspension system offers you a much smoother and confident drive, with much tighter control when cornering and good stability at higher speeds. This system was also tested on the unique challenges presented by UK roads, so you can certainly drive with confidence and self-assurance in the new Kia Ceed.

The big talking point with the new Ceed is the enhanced safety features, which apply to both the hatchback and the Sportswagon Estate. Kia aren’t leaving anything to chance here with a range of industry-leading features to protect you on the road, such as seven standard airbags, high beam assist, driver attention warning, lane keeping assist and forward collision warning autonomous braking.

Like any car, the fuel economy and CO2 emissions vary with engine size and fuel type, but as a gauge the hatchback 1.0 litre petrol offers 52.3 mpg and 122 g/km, while the 1.6 litre diesel offers 70.6 mpg and 103 g/km. On the bigger Estate Sportswagon, the 1.0 litre petrol offers 54.3mpg and 120 g/km and the 1.6 litre diesel brings in 68.9 mpg and 106 g/km.

Popularity

The original Cee’d immediately matched the quality of the big players in this market segment, and yet could do it much cheaper. It really stirred up the industry, as did the unique seven-year warranties offered alongside it. It is Kia’s big seller, and has shifted over one million units since first appearing on the market in 2006.

Now the Ceed is much more athletic and confident. The hatchback is an example of the new generation of family hatchbacks, while the Estate Sportswagon offers some smart styling and is great to look at, is practical and has good running costs. And with a high spec interior the Estate is an elegant transformation from a smaller to a bigger car, and may represent a sensible but enjoyable upgrade from the hatchback if you have a growing family.
